OF THE MUSEO NACIONAL DE SAN CARLOS
The Board was established on June 7, 1960, being a pioneer in its type. Its first president was Mr. Ramón Beteta, who, along with a group of altruistic entrepreneurs, united for the noble purpose of cooperating in the conservation and improvement of the museum, contributed in the procurement of funds to meet the needs of the cultural space. In 1965, at the initiative of the members of the Board of Trustees, negotiations were begun for the transfer to the National Institute of Fine Arts of the former Conde de Buenavista Palace, an architectural jewel of the late 18th century by the Valencian architect Manuel Tolsá, with the purpose to house the nascent museum and deposit in it the art collection of the Old Academy of San Carlos. The Board of Trustees made important efforts and participated with important resources for the refurbishment of the space
The museum was inaugurated by President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz on June 12, 1968, with Mr. Enrique Gual as the first director of the institution. Since then, the Board has supported and joined efforts with civil society for the conservation, maintenance and improvement of the emblematic building and the valuable collection of art that is protected there, being linked to the history of the museum since its inception. The board of directors, governing body of the association, is chaired since October 22, 1986, by Mr. Miguel Alemán Velasco and constituted by a body of directors and employers. The structure of the patronage is independent of that of the museum, which depends on the INBAL (National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature). The board of trustees can manage and receive donations of works of art, money, movable or immovable property, of third-party physical and moral persons, as well as governmental entities.
The Board of Trustees, aware of the artistic, historical and documentary value of the cultural assets that the National Museum of San Carlos protects and guards, supports the necessary actions to preserve in the best conditions, the valuable artistic legacy, for the knowledge and enjoyment of the generations current and future.
